The Romanian MK-11
Rifle is a post 89 ban sporterized AK. The rifle fires
the 5.45x39 Russian cartridge and is the only AK-74 variant
imported in to the country. The rifle comes PACKED with
grease, a 5 round magazine, cleaning kit and manual. The
rifle accepts all high cap AK-74 mags including the East
German bakelite mags. The rifle also comes with a muzzle
nut to protect the front of the barrel. However don't
let this fool you in to thinking you have a threaded barrel,
you don't. The muzzle nut is has been pressed on under
high pressure. |
|
If you wish to
remove it take your gun to a gunsmith he must use a high speed
cutting tool to remove it. The Romanian MK-11 also has
the original bayonet lug still attached, however the
side rails that hold the bayonet have been ground down to
satisfy Clinton. The MK-11 comes with a pre-installed
side scope rail which utilizes the quick detach feature.
Some Romanian AK-74 rifles were imported in to the
country with AK-74 muzzle breaks tack-welded to the barrel for
legality, I believe that only the C.U.R models had this
feature. There were approximately 8000-10000
imported before the most recent wave of ones have come in that
only accept 10 round mags. Most Romanian AK74s were made
in one of three factories: the Cugir Factory, the Sadu Factory
(current Romanian military small arms provider according to an
internet news article) and by RomTechnika. We believe that
only rifles produced by Cugir were imported into the
U.S. by three companies, D.I.G. of Va.Beach, VA.,
Intrac, of Knoxville TN, we are uncertin of the third.
The Romanian AK-74 also has some fairly common design flaws.
First the front sight base appears to be off center and
slightly to the right. Second at the point in which the
rear sight support meets the receiver I can see right in to
the receiver. There are two rectangular holes that allow
me to see right through the rifle. Other than that the
only other complaint I have is the large grip on the stock,
this can be corrected by either shaving down the wood or
replacing it with a U.S. parts kit. Please send any
information you may have on this rifle to webmaster@ak-47.net.
