AK-47.net: Bulgarian SLR-95

The Bulgarian SLR-95 is a milled AK variant that was imported in to the United States from 1994 to 1998. It is a post ban version of the AK produced by Arsenal of Bulgaria.  The Bulgarian SLR-95 comes with a synthetic sporter style stock, five round magazine, cleaning kit, and sling. Two versions of the rifle were imported one with a muzzle brake pinned to the barrel and one without.  The finish of the gun is flat black paint and has a tendency to chip off after use.  The rifle accepts all drums and magazines and fires the 7.62x39 cartridge.

The SLR-95 is a updated version of it's earlier version the SLR-93, which had a wooden stock.  The SLR-95 is a very accurate rifle and is on heavy side due to its milled receiver. Unfortunately the SLR-95 was imported with a sporter style stock which is difficult to shoot and looks bad.  It was believed that by eliminating the pistol grip stock the rifle would become more suitable for sporting purposes.  If you are interested in legally changing your sporter stock to a pistol grip stock, U.S. part kits are available.  Overall the SLR-95 is a very reliable, well made gun that every AK enthusiast should have in their collection.  Unfortunately the SLR-95 is no longer being imported in to the United States however, it's cousin the SLR-101 is still being imported.

How to construct a clone?

As stated above the SLR-95 is no longer being imported in to the U.S., at this time.  However, the SLR-101 (a restricted magazine version)  is still being imported.  You will need to purchase a SLR-101 and have the magazine well enlarged to accept standard AK magazines. You will also have to purchase a U.S. parts kit to remain legal, as the SLR-101 is considered an imported weapon and subject to section 922(r).  Based on the cost of milling the receiver and installing a U.S. parts kit we would advise that you purchase a U.S. version of the rifle from Global Trades.

Pros: Everything about this gun is awesome!
Cons: Poor paint choice and sporter style stock.
Summery: This is a great gun if you can afford to spend $600.00 on it.  The guns were originally around $300.00 however, due to their widespread popularity they have increased in price.                 Submit Review
